Another mind-blowing, heart-pumping, muscle-straining adventure in Danao is CAVING.
There are 2 categories: Moderate (costs 350 pesos) and Extreme (costs 550 pesos, with certificate).
and since we were just beginners, we availed of the moderate category.
For about five minutes, we walked down to the mountains, along the road less traveled..
Carefully, we stepped on the rocks while holding on to the ropes along the way..
and then there was one meter of root climbing..
until we finally reached the mouth of the cave...
We climbed down again just holding on to a thick rope with seemingly excited faces..
And off we go...
Inside, were stalactites and stalagmites we're not allowed to touch.
QUICK TRIVIA (by the guide):
It takes one century for a stalactite/stalagmite to grow an inch.
Touching it can cause one year delay.
There are actually names for the rock formations:
This one is called THE CURTAIN
Here is "Ilong Ranger" (Nose Ranger)
Ain't got a name for this, but I call it "the First Crawl"
uhm.. uhm.. I forgot its name.
QUICK TRIVIA:
The yellowish thing on the rocks is the element SULFUR which prevents algae or moss formations.
(and I found yellowish marks on my white plastic shoes after caving)
Mudpack! this is actually the one used in some spas. Made from natural softened limestones.
The Candle stick(?) I am not sure of this though. Ha-ha-ha!
I call it the Veil
Swimming time!!! And the cave waters were oh so COLD! :)
The caving adventure took about two hours.
Tiresome, but fun and awesome!
A travel that satisfies the heart
and fills the brain with cherished memories.
